Did this by putting the top of the battery on and taping/tying it down, then sliding the red shipping cap onto the socket. I ran into this problem myself and got around it by pressing and holding the 60v slider switch WHILE balancing the cells. This means that if you try charging a cell, it will simultaneously drain a different cell. Theoretically, you’d use a regulated power supply and charge up all cells to match the highest cell. But none should be below 2.5v (hopefully). I assume you’ll find some cells near 4 ish volts and at least one but maybe more cells at a significantly lower voltage. Be aware that some cells are covered by insulator sticker pieces, so you may have to contact the point where the wires are soldered to the nickel strips which are welded on the cells. Use a multimeter and check voltage on all 15 cells. The 2016 models have thin wires going to nearly every cell internally. Hence the low runtime on 60v tools, as on 20v tools that low cell has the parallel power of two more to keep going for a bit longer.įirst open up the sides of the pack. Then, when you use it, the low cells trigger the BMS to the Tool that the battery is dead. However one (or more) cells aren’t fully charged and the other 18v groups aren’t either. When those 4.0v cells hit 4.1v, it terminates the charge. ![]() Now the dewalt chargers stop at 4.1v per cell. ![]() Meaning each cell theoretically has 3.86v in the other two groups. ![]() Which means the other two groups want the cells to be at 19.3v for all five. What it does is ensure that all three 18v batteries have the same top voltage. For example, Imagine four of the five in the group are at 4.0v and one is at 3.3v. Sounds like a cell went out of balance in one of the three 18v groups internally. As In, the charger recognizes it and does charge it up some, meaning the BMS is likely fine and more importantly- none of your cells are completely, fully dead. Flexvolt batteries are indeed tricky to repair.
